The Parish of St Nicholas the Wonderworker is a Russian Orthodox community in Oxford, England, belonging to the Patriarchate of Moscow. Since its foundation, our young parish has been worshipping in a variety of rented accommodation. We have grown quickly and are in need of a permanent place of worship.

An ideal church building has now become available. This former Anglican church, situated in a residential district of Oxford close to the city centre, has been offered to us at a very reasonable price. The purchase of this building will allow our parish to establish itself fully in a spiritual home and develop its mission, rooted in the local community.

Our Work

The community of St Nicholas maintains a full cycle of Divine Services, and an educational programme which includes Sunday school, youth meetings and women’s fellowship meetings. We produce a monthly parish newsletter, The Wayfarer, maintain a lively website, and keep in touch with parish members and friends through regular email updates. We also organize the annual St Seraphim’s Summer Children’s Camp on behalf of our diocese.

Pastoral care and fellowship are central to our community. We meet every Sunday after the Divine Liturgy for coffee and also share a monthly parish meal with friends and visitors. Our parish priest is Orthodox chaplain to both Oxford universities and several local prisons, and our parishioners actively support local charities that assist asylum seekers and the homeless.
