Children and Youth
Our parish operates a Sunday School for children aged 4-11 as well as a youth group for older children and teens. The Parish also runs the annual summer St Seraphim Youth Camp for all the children of the Diocese of Sourozh.
Sunday School ages 4-11
Sunday school meets weekly, following the celebration of the Divine Liturgy in the Church Sunday School room. Sunday School lasts for about thirty minutes according to the following pattern:
- first and second Sundays of the month - a lesson is led by one of the Sunday School teachers;
- third Sunday of the - screening of a children's film on a Biblical theme
- fourth Sunday of the month: the Sunday School is taught by Fr Stephen
The children follow a structured programme of learning which aims to introduce them to the main precepts of the Orthodox faith at an age-appropriate level.
An annual play is usually staged by the children of the Sunday School and is performed to the parishioners for the feast of St Nicholas or Christmas.
Oxford Orthodox Youth Group ages 11-17
The group is open to all Orthodox youth in the Oxford area between the ages of 11 and 18. The group meets monthly, usually on Friday evenings, for food, fellowship, prayer and fun. We also usually have some kind of discussion, game or activity to deepen our understanding of our life in Christ. Meetings are concluded by sung evening prayers in the chapel, after which there are lifts home, unless parents have made other arrangements. Youth group meetings begin at 7.30 pm and finish at 10.30 p.m. They take place in Headington, Oxford, and are usually led by Fr Stephen and Fr Ian Graham (Greek Orthodox Community of the Holy Trinity). All Orthodox young people between the ages specified are welcome to come along. Everyone is welcome - tell your Orthodox friends!
